LAST Saturday at Emerald Golf Club the Auscare Home and Office Solutions VGL medal was there for the taking. With the weather being kind, Peter Clowes (16) decided that kindness was not on his mind when he came in with a nett score of 64 to wear the winner’s grin. He also smiled benignly at the other B Graders from on high.
In A Grade Peter Stevens (11) was the winner with a nett 66 while, from a high scoring bunch in C Grade, Kenneth Sumsion (27) rose to the top of a small hillock with a nett 74.
Leigh Morison and Dean Aitken both has 67, Mike Litchfield and Ray Pund managed 68 while Brian McCoy played to his handicap for 70.
Pund was king of the putters with 26 and Mark Starick had 27.
Graeme Fergus was nearest the pin on the fourth, Clowes the seventh, Ben Balfour the 12th Steven the 13th and Mike Litchfield slid the pro pin notes into purse on the 18th.
Dennis Fuller emptied out the eagle’s nest with an eagle three on the par-five ninth hole.
The ladies’ competition saw Davina Mackey take out the medal in a canter with Irene Cranston finishing in second place.
On Wednesday when the OFG rabble assembled for a round of stableford there was much loose talk of victory. Of those with high hopes, Ben Balfour (20) stood tallest with 47 points. Usually this would indicate and easy win but that was not the case. Moss Fuller was one back on 46, while Graeme Fergus and Ken Hill both had 45 and Geoff Whittaker and Sep Krummenacher had 44.
Next Saturday members face the task of playing with three only clubs. The rumination about which clubs to take might be heard in many home this week.
