UPPER Ferntree Gully will host Johnson Park in next week’s Norm Reeves Shield final. The opposing Captains are former team-mates at Hawthorn Monash Uni Cricket Club.
The Sharks are chasing their second premiership in the top grade having saluted three years ago, while the Kings are going for their sixth, last winning in 1999.
Upper Ferntree Gully made 205 in their game against Eildon Park. Kings Skipper Adam Slack led from the front with 50, while perennial performer Jay Colee made 42. The Panthers shared the wickets around with Hicks, Sinclair and Pimm and bagging three.
Day two saw the old school Upper Gully put the brakes on the Panthers as they fell 14 runs short of the target. Jay Colee (3/45) and Marc Hardy (3/38) showed that age shall not weary them and it was a spectacular catch to Colee that turned the game. Despite finishing third, the kings will host fourth-placed Johnson Park.
The Sharks set Upwey a target of 211 to make their way into next week’s grand final. The Sharks were well contained by the Tigers with Upwey snaring 8/90 after a very good start by Bryn Gaunt (80). Sam Waters took his season tally to 35 wickets, returning the best bowling figures.
Day two saw the Tigers loose crucial wickets just before tea as Steven Devenish turned the game on its ear. Adam Dobb came to the party and took four wickets, while Chris Jewel (49), Mick Hewitt (40) and Leigh Bianchi 33 all got starts for the Tigers.
In Decoite Shield, Monbulk will be hosting Mountain Gate. With four batsmen firing, the Hawks passed 300 before the end of play, Blake Walter and Daniel Clark got off to a good start before Shane Cosstick and Jason Simmons sealed the deal. Trent Atkinson provided South Belgrave with something to hang their hat on.
Day Two and South Belgrave proved it wasn’t going to be all one way traffic. Jordan McDermott (46), Brad Trinnick (47) and Ash Hart (48) all got good starts, but the chase was stifled by Monbulk with Blake Walter taking 3/75.
Mountain Gate Easily accounted for Lysterfield, posting a winning score of 124 only three wickets down. Adam Hardy (51 not out) and Brett Neilsen (43) took the game away from the beavers. Lysterfield will be disappointed with their performance, at one stage the Beavers were 3/84 before being bundled out for 123. Marshall Bunting and Cam Wheeler brought down the beavers, with only Quenten Wells offering resistance.
