HILLS residents looking for a bargain can get their bags and trailers ready – the Mount Evelyn Fire Brigade’s annual garage sale is back this week.
A range of items will be on for sale, including plants, books, toys, garden implements, building materials and bric-a-brac.
Organiser and volunteer firefighter Ken Reed said furniture would no longer be for sale.
“Our biggest problem selling the furniture is getting rid of it – the shire charges us and we have a lot of waste furniture, so that’s why we’re trying something different this year,” he said.
“With a bit of luck, it’ll work.”
Mr Reed said the brigade hoped to raise enough money to replace their strike team leader’s vehicle after the fire season.
“It’s over five years old, and needs to be replaced,” he said.
“The vehicle itself is about $80,000 but with a trade in, we’re looking at about $20,000.
“With what we’ve done through the year with the generosity of the public, I reckon we’ll get pretty close to it.
“We want as many people to come along and support us at the garage sale.”
The sale will be held this Saturday 12 October from 7am to 3pm.
A trailer full of goodies valued at more than $3000 will also be raffled out on the day.
Tickets cost $2.
Mr Reed said any materials left over would go to the Montrose Fire Brigade for its upcoming garage sale and anything that hasn’t been sold would be recycled.
