THE sun has set on Sherbrooke’s stellar season after a 72-86 defeat at the hands of Corio Bay in its Big V basketball semi-final.
Sherbrooke was unable to best the reigning Big V State Championship Men premiers Corio Bay Stingrays as the Geelong-based team knocked off the Suns by 14 points on Sunday.
The best efforts of Sherbrooke import pair Grant Johnson (26 points, seven rebounds) and Titus Robinson (20 points, 14 rebounds) could not drag the Suns to victory as the Stingrays unleashed in the second quarter.
A 27-10 disparity in the second term left Sherbrooke chasing for the rest of the match as Ma’Alo Hicks (28 points, 10 rebounds) and Duane Johnson (17 points, 12 rebounds) dominated in close for the Stingrays at both ends.
Sherbrooke could not find its tempo from beyond the three-point arc, only shooting 4-of-21 for the match outside the line.
Corio Bay will face Ringwood in the grand final as the Hawks knocked off Waverley in the other semi-final 94-85.
Sherbrooke finished the regular season with a 15-9 record to finish fourth for the year.
