Chainsaws stolen from Macclesfield Fire Brigade

Police are investigating after two chainsaws were stolen from Macclesfield Fire Brigade early this morning.

Detective Sergeant Mick Duke from Yarra Ranges Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU) said CCTV camera footage shows a male wearing black shoes, black shorts, a black sleeveless hoodie, and a black bandana entering the Macclesfield CFA station around 4am on 9 January.

The offender has stolen a Stihl and Husqvarna chainsaw from the station and has also attempted to steal a TV, damaging it in the process.

It is believed the offender parked his vehicle at the top car park of the station located on Macclesfield Road.

Sharron Merritt, Captain at Macclesfield CFA said it was a big blow to the volunteer run station which funds most of its equipment through community run fundraisers.

“A lot of that stuff the brigade has bought over the years, and it means we now have to replace it,” she said.

“This is essential equipment and we’re coming into the worst time of the year, so something like this affects us immensely.

“It’s not just cutting up trees on roads, if we get trapped somewhere we need to be able to get out and may need the chainsaws to do that.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Sergeant Mick Duke at Yarra Ranges CIU on 9739 2300
