Victoria Road Primary School was applauded for its efforts in reducing environmental impact on 2 September by Eastern Victoria Region MP Harriet Shing.
The primary school received its three-star certificate from Ms Shing as part of the Victorian Government’s ResourceSmart Schools program.
The school was also recognised for saving over $244,775 through its involvement in the program.
Ms Shing said the award demonstrates the primary school’s brilliant efforts in protecting the environment and developing students’ learning.
“This certification recognises the great work of the dedicated teachers and staff at Victoria Road Primary School,” she said.
“The program gives kids at Victoria Road Primary School a real, hands-on understanding of sustainability and the environment.
“Victoria Road Primary School’s three-star certification achievement demonstrates the school’s commitment to sustainability.”
Managed by Sustainability Victoria, the ResourceSmart Schools program is a free program which helps schools implement sustainability in everything they do.
Since 2008, participating schools have saved $26 million through energy, waste and water savings.
As part of the program, schools are awarded up to five stars for completing modules related to sustainability.
