The development of a free children’s library in Upwey has brought with it a mystery that has left some in the township scratching their heads.
The idea for a library was first raised by Project Upwey member, Faye Sandilands.
Once she received support from Project Upwey she then worked with the Belgrave Men’s Shed to develop the project, which took about four months to get up and running.
But shortly after the library opened a pair of boots with the words Giving and Receiving painted on them were placed on top of the library.
Project Upwey member Andrew Peterson said it’s unknown who is responsible for the boots.
“About two or three weeks after the library was opened these two beautiful boots were put there with those words,”
“They put two there, they put two in front of the cafes down further.
“The wording and the whole thing is very much Upwey.
“It was good on its own but to get the boots has really topped it off.”
Mr Peterson said he hopes to find out the owner so the group can thank them.
The mystery around the boots has added to what has been an exciting project for children in the town.
Mr Peterson said it has so far been a success and that he hoped it will help kids prioritise reading over technology.
“It’s free and kids can come and take books and have some fun,” he said.
“There will be kids that haven’t got books and kids that have too many books.
“It’s being regularly used there are different books in there every day.
“Hopefully, kids will get back to reading great children’s books instead of being on their iPhones.
Upwey also hosts a free library for adults books on Main Street, located at the Upwey Community Link.
