Emergency food relief

Food and essential item packages are available for individuals who have no access to these items due to Covid-19.

Packages will assist people who need to go into mandatory self-isolation, have little food available and have no network of family or friends to assist.

The packages will provide two weeks of essential items including long-life milk, pasta, cereal, canned vegetables and sugar.

Items like soap, toothpaste and deodorant will also be available to eligible households.

Gembrook MP Brad Battin said the packages will help those in need and also help limit the spread of Covid-19.

“We need to ensure those who must self isolate do so, these packages will ensure those

at risk of contracting the coronavirus can remain in isolation and have access to the

essential items,” he said.

“There are some in our community who are not fortunate enough to have a support

network to assist them in times like this. These packages will ensure those in need will

not go without.

“I ask all in the local community to safely check on your neighbours and those vulnerable

in our community to see how you can assist.”

Packages will be delivered to doors and will be coordinated by the Red Cross alongside Foodbank Victoria, under the direction of the State Relief Coordinator.

Packages can be accessed via the Coronavirus Hotline on 1800 675 398.

A hotline to help struggling businesses has also been developed as the virus continues to impact the economy.

The pandemic has created issues for businesses large and small who are facing a downturn in trade, bans on events, restrictions on indoor gatherings and challenges dealing with employee safety and entitlements.

Businesses across the state can now access information on dealing with Covid-19 by calling the Business Victoria hotline on 13 22 15.

Business operators can also find information at business.vic.gov.au.
