VICTORIANS will remain in lockdown after Premier Daniel Andrews revealed lockdown will not be lifted from midnight Tuesday as originally planned.
Speaking to media on 19 July, Mr Andrews said the state has made “great progress” however lifting the lockdown at 11.59pm on 20 July “would not be the right thing to do”.
“We will not be ready to lift this lockdown at midnight tomorrow night,” Mr Andrews said.
Despite the extension, a decision has not been made as to how long the state will remain under strict restrictions.
“It will be based on the information, the results of today’s interviews, the result of today’s testing,” Mr Andrews said.
Victorians still only have five reasons to leave home:
1. Food and supplies.
2. Authorised work.
3. Exercise for two hours each day provided it is within 5km of home.
4. Care and caregiving.
5. Getting vaccinated.
The 5km travel limit is still in force and facemasks must be worn indoors and outdoors whenever leaving the home unless a lawful exemption has been given.
There are currently 280 exposure sites across the state, with 13 new local cases recorded overnight.
