Knox City Council seeking feedback on Basin plans

Knox City Council is seeking community feedback on a draft plan for the Basin Rural Landscape.

The plans include land usage direction for the next 20 years and council plans to protect the biodiversity of the area.

The area has been flagged as a having high ecological value due to significant areas of native vegetation and wildlife habitat.

“The Basin Rural Landscape Precinct will be protected as an ecologically significant area with a distinct natural and rural landscape character, providing a scenic gateway to the Dandenong Ranges,” Knox City Council said in the draft plan.

“The conservation and enhancement of the precinct’s biodiversity, waterways and landscape values will be prioritised, while supporting compatible land use such as sustainable agriculture, rural living, recreation and community uses that complement and enhance these values.”

The strategy will support land use such as sustainable agriculture, recreation and community uses in the area.

Dobsons Creek and the surrounding area is a focus of the draft plan as the council aims to support a water sensitive approach with new development and infrastructure.

Knox City Council have identified several objectives for the area including increasing tree and canopy cover, improving waterway health and management, to protect landscape values and to facilitate safe movement within the area.

Community members have until 12 December 2021 to submit feedback of the draft plan.
