The Dandenong Ranges are set to face heavy rain once more on Friday 12 November which is likely to continue through to Saturday morning.
It’s hoped the dousing will be less severe than the two previous weather events that have caused damage to roads, houses and the loss of power.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) is confident the upcoming front will be less intense than the June and October storms.
BOM Meteorologist Paul Lainio said the Dandenongs and Yarra Valley region will see reasonably large rainfall but at this stage it looks like a rain event with less capacity for damage.
“The last couple of storms have had thunderstorm capacity and damaging winds,” he said.
“This time it looks like a deep low, a good rain producer that will get the rivers flowing.”
However, flood warnings are expected to be issued throughout the week for high risk areas.
Mr Lainio said the low-pressure weather system coming from South Australia will pass into Victoria on Thursday.
”On Thursday the low will pass over Mildura before covering the north-east of the state on Friday,” Mr Lainio said.
“We will see good rain, anywhere between 20mm to 50mm, and the south-easterly winds will cause another 20mm to 40mm to go through that area and the north-east of Melbourne.”
