UNLEASHED THE EXHIBITION

UNLEASHED is an exhibition celebrating local artists, re-emerging and reflecting on their experience of Covid lockdown.

Artworks by Anna Lipsane, Bruce Watson, Chris Lawry, David Heatherley, Emily Lowe, Rain White and Stephen Glover will be presented in the ArtSpace Selby gallery at Selby Community. The exhibition opening is on Friday 13 May, while the exhibition runs until the 20 June.

House Manager, Ms Anna Reid says ‘Artspace Selby is an initiative driven by Selby Community House to support artists effected by COVID-19. The aim is to provide a platform for artists (emerging and established) to present their work in a professional exhibition space.

All artists must be based in Yarra Ranges Shire. With an emphasis on promoting local artists, ArtSpace Selby encourages community connection and participation. During the Covid-19 lockdown segregation, isolation and loneliness was experienced across our community. Selby Community House identified the need for the community to participate and engage in artistic exploration through an accessible medium such as Art. Through its expressive and explorative nature,

Art is a perfect medium for artists and the community to heal and continue healing from an incredibly difficult time. ’Building community through art’ is a metaphor Artspace Selby promotes through all aspects of its development and programming’.

Funded through the Arts and Heritage grant through Yarra Ranges Council, the artists will be provided a space to exhibit, in a supportive and nurturing environment.

Through the support from Yarra Ranges Council, the community can experience seeing the work by local artists, plus promoting our artists after such a difficult time. Artwork will be available to buy, with all proceeds going directly to the artists.

Ms Reid continues ‘we welcome all of the community to come and support our artists. The opening on Friday 13 May, will be a fun event, with food, drinks and live music by local act ‘YEE HAW’.

Exhibition Opening: Friday 13 May 6 – 7pm.

Exhibition Dates: 13 May to 20 June (open during office hours)
