Skatepark excitement this September

Skateboard and scooter riders are in for a fun-filled September school holidays with exciting events taking place at two recently upgraded skate parks in Cardinia Shire.

Gembrook Leisure Park in Gembrook will be the location for a skate competition run by the YMCA and hosted by Cardinia Shire Council.

From 2.30pm to 5pm on Friday 30 September, the Gembrook Community Group will be hosting a BBQ and Cardinia Shire Council’s Youth Services team will be onsite with a range of giant games and activities.

The playground and skatepark upgrade was completed and officially opened in December 2019.

However, due to weather events and the COVID-19 pandemic, the community opening event had been rescheduled a few times.

Another skate competition and scooter competition will be held at Cochrane Park Skatepark in Koo Wee Rup on Friday 16 September from 2.30pm to 5pm.

There will also be a free BBQ and Aligned Leisure’s Street Team will be in attendance to offer a wide variety of activities on the afternoon.

Cardinia Shire Council is excited to celebrate the completion of significant upgrades to this popular skatepark with the community.

The council engaged Grind Projects, who partnered with one of Australia’s best-known skate park designers Baseplate, to design and construct the skate park in Cochrane Park, Koo Wee Rup.

For more information about the great skate, and scooter facilities in the shire, visit the council’s website at www.cardinia.vic.gov.au/skatebmx or call the Active and Connected team on 1300 787 624.

All are welcome to the skating competitions in Gembrook and Koo Wee Rup.
