Two men hospitalised after gas cylinder explosion

Two men remain in hospital after a fire caused by an exploding gas cylinder in Upwey on Tuesday 4 October.

It is believed the fire started when a gas cylinder being installed into a 1980s Commodore exploded underneath the house’s carport, causing the car port to catch fire.

In an effort to stop the fire from spreading to the house, the two men were injured and were treated for serious burns at the scene by paramedics who responded to the incident around 1.40pm.

A relative of the two men told Channel 10 News their clothes were set alight after attempting to put out the fire.

A 72-year-old man was airlifted to the Alfred Hospital with critical injuries, while a 32-year-old man was transported to hospital with serious injuries.
