Cockatoo family involved in fatal Daylesford crash

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating following a fatal collision in Daylesford on Sunday, in which Cockatoo locals were involved.

A 38-year-old Cockatoo man and a 43-year-old Kyneton woman were both injured.

It’s believed they are known to each other however police are still establishing how they are linked.

Both were flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

An 11-month-old baby boy with the pair was also injured.

He was taken by road to Ballarat Base Hospital and has since been transferred to the Royal Children’s Hospital.

The baby’s mother, a 34-year-old woman from Cockatoo, was not injured.

Emergency services were called to reports a BMW SUV mounted the kerb and struck a number of patrons on the front lawn area of a licensed premises on Vincent Street just after 6pm.

A 38-year-old man and his 11-year-old son were both killed.

The man’s wife, a 36-year-old woman, and a second son, aged six, were injured.

The woman was flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital and the injured boy was flown to the Royal Children’s Hospital.

All are from Tarneit.

Another 30-year-old man and his partner, a 44-year-old woman, were killed along the woman’s nine-year-old daughter.

All are from Point Cook.

The driver of the BMW, a 66-year-old Mount Macedon man, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be determined and investigations remain ongoing.
