What do you love most about the Sassafras Village Green?

The ngurrak barring | Ridgewalk project aims to connect the villages of the Dandenong’s through 5 themed walks covering 39kms. The themes of community, Country, ways of seeing, activism and resilience will be celebrated through cultural histories and creative stories specific to each region along the way.

“Architectural Nodes are resting spaces that are important aspects of these themes, and we would like your input. Five key sites within the Dandenong Ranges have been identified for these Nodes which include design features and interpretive information, providing a place to pause and reflect on the surrounding environment,” Yarra Ranges Streeton Ward Councillor, Andrew Fullagar said.

“One of the Architectural Nodes is to be located at Sassafras Village Green. Council, in conjunction with the designers will soon commence the design phase for this Architectural Node that celebrates the theme of ‘Community’.”

Cr Fullagar highlights the importance of community engagement in shaping this endeavour, “Sassafras Village Green is a cherished community space. We are keenly interested in hearing from residents about their perspectives on the current space and their aspirations for the new ‘community themed’ architectural node. Your insights will impact the development of this iconic area.”

Yarra Ranges Council encourages residents to contribute to the survey where feedback can influence the design.

“The survey offers residents a valuable opportunity to articulate their sentiments about the current space and contribute ideas for its future. Your responses will guide us in creating an architecturally beautiful and inclusive Node,” Cr Fullagar said.

“We assure the community that the Sassafras War Memorial will be respected and will remain untouched, and the existing community brick path will also be retained.”

The council extends an invitation to the community to chat to the ngurrak barring team on Thursday 21 March, from 1.30pm to 5.30pm at the Village Green. This will provide an opportunity for the community to ask questions about the project directly with the team.

The council remains committed to a collaborative approach in the development of the ngurrak barring | Ridgewalk project, ensuring that the architectural node in Sassafras Village Green aligns with community values.

To provide your feedback, the council encourages you to participate in the survey by visiting shaping.yarraranges.vic.gov.au/sassafras-village-green. Your responses will influence the design of this new architectural node, making it a reflection of the community’s preferences and aspirations. Survey closes Thursday 28 March.
