On Friday 6 September, Mater Christi College celebrated their annual “Mater Day”, With the purpose of encouraging kindness and community action.

Principal Maria Haggett said that students should strive to ‘be the person who does something’ when they see injustice in the world.

“This message is a core value for us at Mater Christi,” said Ms Haggett.

The Mater Day celebrations included a fundraising event to support the modern-day work of the Good Samaritan Sisters. The year level that raised the most money were rewarded with the use of the Staff Lounge at recess and lunchtime for one week.

Students participated in a House Performing Arts Competition, watched movies, enjoyed lunch from local food trucks, and then danced the afternoon away at a disco delivered by one of the music teachers affectionately known as DJ Balderstone.

“I love how Mater Christi goes all out on Mater Day. It’s mainly about celebrating our community and giving to those in need”, said Year 10 student, Zara.
