The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) is calling on Aussie drone users to put their knowledge to the test with a quick quiz to prove their drone safety know-how and see if they can beat the average score.
With new drone ownership expected to soar this Christmas, CASA is inviting drone enthusiasts to take part in its drone safety quiz and compare results with friends and family for a fun, festive challenge.
The quiz is part of the latest phase of CASA’s Know Your Drone campaign, launched on 17 December.
It aims to ensure that Australia’s three million recreational drone owners – and those who might get a drone this Christmas – understand their flying responsibilities.
“Flying drones is more popular than ever, especially around the holidays, and we want everyone to understand their role in keeping the skies safe,” a CASA spokesperson said.
“The quiz is a fun and easy way to reinforce the safety rules and promote responsible flying.
“On average, recreational drone users score 8 out of 11 on the safety quiz. So, we want to know – are you better than average?”
The 2024-25 summer campaign will encourage drone flyers to download a CASA-verified drone safety app – an essential step before every flight.
“We expect drones to be a popular gift again this Christmas, and we want everyone to be able to enjoy their drones safely,” the spokesperson said.
“The safety apps can show you where you can fly safely – helping you to keep well clear of airports as well as areas where aircraft such as helicopters might operate.”
CASA is also continuing to work with retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers who help to spread the word about the rules and educate new flyers at the point of purchase.
The Know Your Drone summer campaign will run across digital video and social platforms, including in multiple languages, until May 2025.
