Extreme winds to ravage the state for the rest of today

A severe weather warning has been issued for damaging winds forecast to impact the large parts of the state throughout the remainder of 24 June.

The whole of the Yarra Ranges will be impacted by the strong winds averaging 65 to 75 kilometres per hour.

Peak gusts of around 120 kilometres per hour are occurring and remain possible today over alpine areas above 1400 metres.

Damaging wind gusts are likely to become more widespread from this afternoon, including areas below 1400 metres.

Other areas to be impacted are Horsham, Warrnambool, Ballarat, Geelong, Melbourne, Stawell, Hamilton, Portland and Wonthaggi.

Community members in the warning zone are encouraged to safely secure outdoor furniture and park vehicles undercover or away from trees where possible.

For up-to-date information, download the VicEmergency mobile app and establish a personal watch-zone.

The next weather warning update will be issued by 5pm today.
