Olinda Football Club’s women’s team celebrated their first ever twilight game at home on Saturday night with a 153-0 win against Seville.
Olinda kicked 5 goals in every quarter in an even performance.
Chelsea Wilson was dominant in the ruck all night, not only winning every tap, but regularly winning contested ball and delivering quality entries into the forward line.
Phoebe Dixon and Ella Smith in her last game for the year roamed the forward line in the first half, peppering the goals, both finishing with 3 and 4 goals respectively.
The game marked the debut of Junior Club stalwart Grace Belloni, and it was a debut for the ages. Grace, only 15 years old, controlled half back and midfield, and continually repelled entries and drove the ball forward will precise skill.
Grace capped off the performance with 3 goals. Amalija Kostich’s 5 goals on the half-forward flank had everything; pack marks, leading marks crumbing goals and running goals. It was a complete performance as a mid-sized forward.
Kiah Burgess burst through packs and pumped the ball forward, kicking 2 goals.
The second half saw some positional changes, and regular back Kim Smith was placed forward for her first ever goal.
Maddy Mccheyne snuck forward and took the best pack mark of the night at the top of the square.
Mentio to Olinda’s midfield, Captain Maddie Collins, Claire Hyett, and Kylie Verbakel, who won every contested ball in the centre and built the defensive wall which locked the ball into Olinda’s forward line for most of the night.

The Junior Club was spread throughout the hills and valleys on Sunday with early games at Upwey and Healesville, games at Mt Evelyn, Emerald, Wesburn and then back to finish off at Healesville. Low numbers with school holidays and COVID protocols seemed to be the order of the day for all clubs.
It was a mixed day for results. The U13 boys met Mt Evelyn competition. The team’s numbers were down for the day and with an early injury to one of the only upper age boys available and the club was beaten.
Olinda Football Club’s U16 girls were down in numbers with key position players not available against Healesville Football Club who were also down on numbers. The heat and a steady stream of injuries made it tough in the first half but they regrouped.
The U15 and U17 boys at Olinda Football Club won against Wesburn and Emerald respectively.
The U17s have some inclusions this year and with returning players next round. Olinda Football Club’s U15s will have low numbers this year,
Olinda Football Club’s U12 Girls played against Upwey and their numbers are growing every week. The U11s also played at Upwey, and with low numbers secured a win against Upwey and the U10s at Healesville scored freely along with the opposing side.
