Two years ago it was uncertain if the Olinda pool would remain open, now according to James Edge, President at the Olinda Community Pool Association the pool is flourishing.
After some landscaping works and a new PA system, James said the pool is looking better than ever just in time for the hot weather.
Over winter, the Olinda Community Pool Association has set about improving the area surrounding the pool including a new ‘grassed area, rock wall and landscape beautification project near the deep end side of the pool’.
“The community pool association is running the pool for the second year now and it’s going great,” said Mr Edge.
“We now have a fantastic landscape area near the deep end … what we did is some rock works with a terraced rock wall ,some more grass space for people to sit and we’ve also planted over 100 native plants as part of the beautifications project.”
“We also put in a new PA system, which we can play music over,” James said.
That public address speaker system is also going to be utilised when on 27 January the pool hosts a Triple JJJ hottest 100 event, with music playing over the speakers.
Amongst the changes is also the capacity to heat the pool with water blankets which keeps it at a balmy temperature of around 25 degrees – always important when you’re a pool which is located at 569 metres above sea level.
“We’ve now got water blankets and they’ve increased the temperature … average temperature of the pool is 25 degrees,” Mr Edge said proudly.
The Olinda outdoor pool is open every day from 12-7pm though the pool is closed on Christmas Day and days which the CFA deems a Total Fire Ban or if the fire rating is severe, extreme or code red.
