Upwey woman rescued in tragic drowning incident

A 46-year-old Upwey woman was rescued following an incident at Dights Falls in Abbotsford in the early hours of Wednesday 24 November.

A 29-year-old Rowville man’s body was retrieved from the water by police from the Search and Rescue, Water Police and Airwing along with the assistance of Ambulance Victoria, Fire Rescue Victoria and the SES when they responded to reports the pair had overturned a canoe in rapid waters about 1.30am.

Police said a swift-water rescue took place and the woman was carried to safety where she was assessed by paramedics and taken to hospital for observation.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner after the tragic death with the exact circumstances surrounding the incident yet to be determined with the investigation ongoing.
