Foothills Community Care is running their final regular Wednesday night meal for 2021 on Wednesday 15 December.
They are offering hot takeaway meals to enjoy outside, which are available from 5pm until 6pm.
Foothill Community Care founder Stephen Barrington said the meals are an opportunity for people to connect and have a meal with others in the community.
“We’ve been running our Ferntree Gully meals for about 16 years now every Wednesday night,” he said.
“We haven’t been able to run our dining room as much as we’d like to, but fortunately we we’ve been able to keep it going all the way through lockdowns and haven’t missed a night.”
The community meal is held at the Ferntree Gully Girl Guides Hall and there will be outdoor dining available.
Mr Barrington said having takeaway only meals throughout lockdowns in 2021 was difficult for Foothills Community Care.
“We are keen to have people connect and as we’ve approached the end of the year we’ve been able to have outdoor dining,” he said.
“Everybody is welcome and we can have more people outside than inside, while we offer fresh fruit, vegetables, non-perishables and frozen meals as well as freshly cooked meals on the night.”
Foothills Community Care was established in 2002 to provide a safe space where people can connect and engage with the community as they address challenges like family and domestic violence, homelessness, addiction, poverty, mental health issues and social isolation.
The community meals have been running since 2007 and provides Ferntree Gully locals a place to hang out and have a meal.
The meals will recommence on Wednesday 2 February 2022.
