All Saints Anglican Church in Selby has wrapped up several days of Easter services and celebrations after a weekend of community involvement.

Maundy Thursday involved footwashing of parishioners, with the Church’s priest resembling Jesus Christ’s act of washing the feet of his own disciples.

Hot cross buns, commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, were shared by the congregation on Good Friday at All Saints Anglican Church. The hot cross buns were eaten after a “very quiet, reflective service,” church warden and secretary of the Parish Council Felicity Podger said.

“It’s all systems go,” Ms Podger said from then on.

The lighting of the New Fire happens at the Easter Vigil on Easter Day, where the congregation’s candles are lit from the New Fire and the church is in darkness until the sun rises.

“The church is decorated with flowers and a special altar frontal used only at Easter and Christmas,” she said.

“The services are usually attended with visitors from the community or people holidaying in the area.”

On Easter Sunday, All Saints’ congregation and the community alike participated in a chocolate easter egg hunt – an event that was advertised through the local kindergarten.

“There were a few kids who were obviously school-aged, but a number of pre-schoolers [joined],” Ms Podger said.

“We continue to let the community know when we have things on.”
