A 17-year-old Ferntree Gully youth was one of six arrested on Thursday 14 July for a series of aggravated burglaries.

Detectives from the Southern Metro Regional Crime Team arrested six teenagers, including the 17-year-old Ferntree Gully teenager, in Seaford and allege they stole two vehicles on 10 July and committed a series of aggravated burglaries in Mt Martha, Safety Beach, Mount Waverley, Edithvale, Mordialloc, Dandenong South, Montmorency and Eltham between the 10 and 14 July.

He was charged with theft of motor vehicle and possession of cannabis. He was bailed to appear before a children’s court at a later date.

Southern Metro Region Crime Team Detective Senior Sergeant David Cox said as a part of Operation Alliance, police are intensely focusing on disrupting youth networked offenders.

“In the first instance, we will do everything in our power to prevent crime but when crime does occur,” he said.

“We will be there to hunt down those responsible for threatening our community and put them before the courts.”

Police allege the group stole a white Subaru from Safety Beach and a silver Land Rover from Mt Martha on 10 July, a silver Volkswagen and silver BMW in Mount Waverley at 3am on 11 July and a silver Kia from a residential address in Eltham on 13 July.

The Land Rover, Volkswagen, MBW and Kia remain missing.

Police tracked the Subaru from the air before arresting the four occupants. Two more people were arrested later, with police believing they were occupants of the stolen Land Rover.
