Knox residents can now add foodscraps to green bins

Locals in Ferntree Gully, The Basin, Boronia and Bayswater can now start adding food scraps to their green bins alongside garden cuttings.

Knox City Council said if you have the new kitchen caddy, it is recommended that you use this along with the composable liners to collect food scraps, or you can add them straight into the bin loose if you are still waiting for one.

Items that can go into the food and garden bin include vegetable and food scraps, leftover food, dairy, eggshells, pasta and rice, meat, bones, fish, soft shell seafood, citrus, onions, garlic, coffee grounds, loose tea leaves, paper towel, tissues, newspaper, garden prunings, grass, weeds and lime green compostable bags with seedling logos.

Things that cannot go into the bin include pet poo, litter or bags, teabags, coffee pods, fruit stickers, nappies, wipes, plastic, metal or glass, soft plastic or biodegradable bags and packaging.
