Cardinia Shire Australia Day Award nominations now open

Cardinia Shire’s 2024 Australia Day Awards nominations are now open.

Nominations can be made in the Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Event of the Year categories.

The Australia Day Awards recognise excellent contributions that individual citizens and community events make to the Cardinia Shire community.

Nominees must be Australian citizens and live, work or study in Cardinia Shire. They need to have made a noteworthy contribution to the shire during 2023.

Cardinia Shire Mayor Cr Tammy Radford encouraged community members to take the time to nominate deserving local volunteers and local events.

“If you know someone who’s contributed to our community this year, or you’ve been to a great community event in Cardinia Shire, then please head to Council’s website and make a nomination.

“It’s a really meaningful way to show your appreciation, and to highlight the wonderful work being done to strengthen and benefit our local community,” said Cr Radford.

To be eligible, nominees for Young Citizen of the Year must be aged 25 or under on 26 January 2024. Senior Citizen of the Year nominees must be aged 70 years or over on 26 January 2024.

Community events must have been held between November 2022 and November 2023 at a physical location in Cardinia Shire or hosted online by a not-for-profit organisation based in Cardinia Shire. Previous award winners are not eligible to win an award in the same category for at least 5 years.

For more information and to make a nomination visit www.cardinia.vic.gov.au/australiaday

Nominations close at midnight on Sunday 12 November 2023.
