Yarra Ranges Council is encouraging feedback from local community members on some proposed parking restriction changes in Olinda.

The proposed changes aim to create more equitable parking outcomes, ensuring that residents, local businesses and visitors all benefit from improved accessibility and fairer access to parking within the town.

Streeton Ward Councillor, Jeff Marriott, said that the proposed changes aligned with Council’s Draft Parking Management Framework.

“The Framework is our ongoing review into parking infrastructure across our municipality, where we are trying to improve things for everyone and keep up with the growing needs of our community,” Cr Marriott said.

“We’ve heard previously, particularly from local businesses, that the lack of restrictions has meant that some people were leaving their vehicles in the one park all day, hampering the ability for other community members to park closer to where they need to go.

“We think these proposed changes will ultimately lead to fairer parking outcomes for the community, along with improved safety, accessibility and traffic flow around Olinda.

“Now what we really need is to hear from people who live, work, or travel frequently to Olinda to provide feedback on these proposed changes, to ensure that what we’ve got things right.”

The proposed parking restriction changes include:

• Introducing a two-hour parking restriction along Olinda-Monbulk Road and on the north side of Mt Dandenong Tourist Road

• Two-hour parking on Monash Avenue

• Introducing an accessible bay on the north side of Mt Dandenong Tourist Road

• Introducing a four-hour parking restriction on the south side of Mt Dandenong Tourist Road

Part of the proposed changes will also involve line marking of parking bays to more clearly define parking availability.
