Man in hospital after attack in Belgrave

A shock machete assault rocked Belgrave on Wednesday 29 October with the alleged attackers fleeing in a white BMW Sedan and leaving a Ferntree Gully man hospital.

Police are investigating the attack which occurred on Blacksmiths Way about 7.10pm

“Detectives are investigating a machete assault in Belgrave on 29 October,” said a police spokesperson.

Two victims, a man a woman, were confronted by a group of males on Blacksmiths Way about 7.10pm and one offender allegedly struck the male victim with a machete before the group of offenders took off from the scene in a white BMW sedan.

“The victim, a 27-year-old Ferntree Gully man, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” said a police spokeswoman,.

Overnight social media posts saw locals asking what had happened in the small town, after seeing police cars clustered along the main street, the area sectioned off and staff from restaurants in the area being interviewed.

Police have said that the despite a thorough search of the area, the offenders nor the BMW were located.

The investigation remains ongoing.
