Monbulk MP James Merlino has announced applications have opened for the 2022 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund.

The fund — which was allocated $30 million in the recent Victorian state budget — invests funding into new and improved facilities for sports facilities, with $10 million dedicated to female friendly facilities.

Mr Merlino said sport and active recreation is the heart and soul of local communities.

“With more and more women and girls signing up to play in the Dandenong Ranges, we are getting on with upgrading infrastructure so clubs can keep up with soaring demand, while also making them accessible and more inclusive,” he said.

“I urge councils and sporting organisations to partner and apply for projects that will make a real difference to the lives of Victorians.”

Projects in the Monbulk electorate receiving grants from the 2021-22 local sports infrastructure fund include new LED lighting at King’s Park Reserve in Upper Ferntree Gully, home to Upwey Ferntree Gully Baseball Club.

Clubs interested in applying are urged to contact their local council to aid them in the application process. More information can be found at sport.vic.gov.au
