Prodigiously talented Yarra Ranges band The Anecdote is set to launch their debut album ‘Carved Upon the Air’ at The Skylark Room (Burrinja Cultural Centre), Upwey, on Saturday 6 May.
Featuring born ‘n’ bred Upwey musician Michael Arvanitakis (cello, guitar and backing vocals), the album features songs written over a 15-year period and is described as a “profound work of rich string and brass arrangements, and a compelling and haunting intimacy”.
The line-up comprises Arvanitakis, Warburton’s Andrew Darling (vocals, guitar and trumpet) and Leanne Arvanitakis-Hall (percussion).
The Anecdote is a seasoned festival act, having performed at a range of festivals and on radio.
The Anecdote has supported such esteemed artists as The April Maze, The Stray Hens, and Tenzin Choegyal.
Throughout their careers, members of The Anecdote have performed and recorded with such musical luminaries as Gotye, Dan Kelly, Jeff Lang, Liz Stringer, Gareth Liddiard, Greg Arnold and Dallas Frasca.
The band has been described as delivering “a marriage of painstakingly sculptured songs, poetic lyrics, fiery improvising and spacious interweaving. Drawing from elements of folk, world music, reggae and jazz, The Anecdote are a dazzling and stunning live experience”.
The Anecdote will be supported by acclaimed singer-songwriter Jed Rowe, whose music walks the line between country, blues and folk.
His third album ‘The Last Day of Winter’ was produced by Aria winner Jeff Lang.
Also on the bill will be world music duo Roderick McLeod on Kora and Master Indian Bansuri player Vinod Prasanna.
For the 6 May show, doors open for dinner at 6pm, with music starting at 7.30pm.
