MOUNT Evelyn Football Club’s Damian Cupido kicked a whopping 14 goals in his side’s 150-point win against Olinda Ferny Creek over the weekend.
The team scored 10 goals in the first quarter to Olinda Ferny Creek’s one, with Cupido kicking seven of those.
The final score was 201 to 60.
The win brought finals hopefuls Olinda Ferny Creek from their third place ranking on the ladder down to fifth place, and put Mount Evelyn up one spot to ninth.
President Ray Fellows said the win was fantastic for the team, which had been struggling this year.
“We went into the game optimistic and I think Olinda Ferny Creek were a bit shell-shocked after the first quarter,” he said.
“We didn’t expect the boys to play as well as they did on the day, which was fantastic for everybody.”
Mr Fellows praised the efforts of the team and Cupido’s good work.
“It was a real confidence boosting win – the team lifted and played the football we always thought they could play,” he said.
“The whole side played really well and it’s important we still win a few more games before the end of the season.”
